Iwi and NZ Police Signing

Date: October / 17 / 2007

TROR - NZ POLICE, CENTRAL: MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING

Te Rūnanga O Raukawa Inc - NZ POLICE, CENTRAL: MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING

A Te Rūnanga O Raukawa working group facilitated by Te Hope Hakaraia, has been working with NZ Police, Central to develop a Memorandum of Understanding, to reflect a high-level Treaty of Waitangi partner-to-partner relationship, between the Te Rūnanga O Raukawa Tumuaki and District Commander for the Central region. The agreement facilitates the bringing of strategic issues to the table, for discussion, in a safe environment. The ultimate aim of this relationship is to seek positive outcomes for both parties which would contribute to an improvement in the social and economic situation of Ngāti Raukawa members, and related iwi.

A MOU has been agreed between the parties, where the emphasis is on discussions at a strategic rather then operational level. This means that issues or disputes of an operational or contractual matters should be addressed by other members of the parties (eg. General Manager or Area Manager) in terms of any relevant agreement or contract.

An historic signing of the MOU between Richard Orzecki, Te Rūnanga o Raukawa Inc and NZ Police, Central has been organized for this Thursday 30 August at our Levin premises to which all Te Rūnanga Whaiti representatives are welcome to tautoko.
